Particle Size D50 is popular and very important in particle sizing.
It is also known as the median diameter or the medium value of the particle size distribution, it is the value of the particle diameter at 50% in the cumulative distribution. It is one of an important parameter for representing particle size. For example, if D50=5.8 micrometer, then 50% of the particles in the sample are larger than 5.8 micrometer, and 50% smaller than 5.8 micrometer.

AS-2011 laser particle size analyzer works on basis of laser diffraction theory, that is determine the size of particles by interaction between light and particles and diffraction law of particle to the light, it is the Mie scattering theory.
